Silver Sands Motel

Silver Sands Motel and resort is a Greenport treasure dating back to 1957. It is nestled on the North Fork of Long Island along a beautiful quiet beach where the most delicious oysters on Long Island live. Silver Sands Motel sits leisurely on the tranquil Peconic Bay and features 20 rooms with a nostalgic and casual vibe. A place where you immediately feel at home away from home. Luminism Design was tapped to create a landscape lighting design that felt authentic and true to the landscape. Instead of conventional large pole fixtures and area lights we wanted to bring out that sense of cozy by the bay and camp site feeling by creating soft pockets of lighting throughout the property for circulation and relaxation.

Client collaboration

The new owners of Silver Sands Motel brought their passion for this rejuvenation project to every aspect of the process including our design work. Their dedication to preserving the landscape helped create a lovely pallet for us to illuminate. With the help of the owners, Luminism Design developed a lighting design that is both sensible for the guests and artistic for the grounds.

Alluring nightscapes

Luminism Designs goal for the landscaping lighting design plan was to allure people outdoors to experience the calm and enchanting nightscape on the beautiful Silver Sands property. To merge the lap of the bay with a visual of the landscape throughout the evening. The 30 acre property is an expanse of trees, soft grasses, retro cabins and a down-home Oyster Bar that sits at the bottom of a big native tree. When wondering through the property, at each turn the eye finds itself drawn to nature, to the small foliage and textures, and to the grand old trees and gentle bay beach. Soft lighting provides view of these details mostly unnoticed by day. When arriving to Eddie’s Oyster Bar, one is welcomed with the soft glow of light by the floating basket lights in the tree, as well as fish trap shaped lanterns under the canopy for a real authentic experience. Luminism Design’s landscape lighting provides multiple visual destinations throughout the property for a well rounded nighttime environment.
